Global Warming Happens Naturally

It may be hard for many to believe, but there has been very little research conducted in regard to the earth’s natural mechanisms for warming. It seems quite strange that scientists, who are to have inquisitive minds, simply choose to assume that global warming is man-made. Without verifiable data over tens of thousands of years, isn’t it difficult to prove that man is the cause of the earth’s warming trend, assuming that this is even the case?

What we do know for a fact is that carbon dioxide is essential for life on Earth to exist, and that there is very little of it in the Earth’s atmosphere. As of 2008, only thirty-nine out of every 100,000 molecules of air was comprised of CO2. For that number simply to increase by a factor of one, to forty, it would take mankind’s CO2 emissions at current levels at least five more years.

Exactly how much of the Earth’s past warming is due to mankind and how much additional warming we should expect in the future depends on what is called ‘climate sensitivity’. Climate sensitivity is the temperature response of the Earth to a given amount of ‘radiative forcing’; of which there are two kinds: a change in either the amount of sunlight absorbed by the Earth, or in the infrared energy the Earth emits to outer space.

Although one would think that mankind would have more acquired knowledge in regard to the Earth’s climate sensitivity by now, it seems that this data has been surprisingly difficult to obtain. The way atmospheric processes like clouds and precipitation systems respond to warming is extremely critical, because they are either amplifying the warming, or reducing it. As well, small, chaotic oscillations in the atmospheric and oceanic circulatory systems can cause small changes in global cloud cover. Even small fluctuations in some of these conditions are all that is needed in order to cause the Earth’s climate to change.

So, facts indicate that climate change happens, regardless of man’s involvement. Isn’t it a bit arrogant to assume that any warming trend is all because of us?
